First of all, welcome, or as we say in Vietnamese, Chào Đón! We hope your learning experience proves not only enjoyable, but also fruitful.
You do not NEED internet access to take part in out school, however we do recommend it as many helpful resources are available to you this way. We hope the following information helps to get you started:
- You will need an email account @ispeakviet.com. They are free and simple to setup. You can access it from any internet enabled computer. Not only will the email address encourage you to continue learning Vietnamese, it will also enable you to easily access shared resources at a later stage. Please contact Brad (Bảo) in person or via email and it will be setup for you.
- If you are running a Microsoft Windows machine and you wish to be able to type Vietnamese characters, you will need to install the following program, which is free: http://www.unikey.org/ Sadly, Microsoft always makes things hard. For Mac users, simply enable the Vietnamese keyboard from the International section of System Preferences. Once enabled, you can turn it an and off from the 'flag' icon that now appears. It's a good idea to 'Show Keyboard Viewer' until you become familiar with the keyboard layout. After a bit of practice you'll be typing Vietnamese in no time!
